“Oh, I see you like French movies? What kind of movies exactly?” This is one of the first questions Matt asked me during my interview for the Assistant Digital Marketing Manager position at Alpha Digital, back in 2014.
They say first impressions can make or break a relationship. In that instance, I can say in all honesty that I immediately thought that if this agency were anything like its boss, it would be a pretty cool place to work. And it is.
Out of all the places I have worked, overseas and in Australia, Alpha Digital is not just ‘a pretty cool place to work’, it is by far the best place I have experienced.
Why, you ask?
There is a little piece of magic that makes it all click together, people. People who make you want to get up in the morning and come to work with a big smile on your face, people who care about you and want to help you grow, people who will support you through tough times.
It might not seem like the most important factor to you, after all you might not be looking to make friends, but I swear that having such a great team around everyday will make work so much more valuable and rewarding.
The team is a wonderful bunch of many different personalities, cultural backgrounds and educations. What I loved most about it is that everyone has their own strengths and specific skills, and is always willing to help out and teach each other things. I feel like I have gained many skills and I have become more open minded, working so collaboratively for almost two years.
I had the chance to work on a great variety of clients and projects throughout my experience with the agency.
Client relationships are taken very seriously at Alpha Digital, we like to get personal with our clients and make them feel valued. As a manager, you get a chance to build a relationship with your client, and to create a customised strategy for them, allowing for long term relationships between the agency and its partners.
Employees’ development is equally as important to the agency. As an individual, you are able to explore your interests and work on projects you care about. For example, I had the chance to help build the Social Media and Email Marketing departments, and to learn a great deal about these fields.
Last but not least, one of the things I am most grateful for is career advancement. During my experience at Alpha Digital I had the chance to gain more and more responsibilities. I started as an Assistant in 2014, and quickly grew to a Manager role in charge of the largest client portfolio. Finally in 2015, I was given the chance to take a Team leader position, where I was the direct report for 4 Managers.
This career development has enabled me to gain so many different skills, not only in the digital space, but also in management, which is very valuable for my future as an agency employee.
I can’t thank my team and my mentors enough for this wonderful experience. I feel like I owe them so much more than just a pleasant work experience, because they truly were like a family to me when I was so far away from home. Needless to say, if (when) I come back to Australia, I would sign again in a heartbeat.
